Andersen Environmental Prize Flyer (2)

University of Iowa College of Law Adjunct Professor Robert M. Andersen (J.D. Class of 1976) is a current Member of the Iowa Law School Foundation and served as the Articles Editor of Volume 61 of the Iowa Law Review. A longtime supporter of the Iowa Law Review, Professor Andersen used academic publications as a law student and throughout his 50-year career as an environmental attorney to promote effective and efficient laws and policies designed to protect the nation’s environment.

With a goal to foster interest in environmental careers and support the goals of the Iowa Law Review, Professor Andersen has established an environmental writing prize for students at the University of Iowa College of Law in the amount of $4,000 per academic year. The prize will be awarded to the University of Iowa College of Law student who has written what is deemed by the Professor Andersen as the best environmental piece committed to publication in the Iowa Law Review each year.

Criteria and Eligibility

The student publication must authoritatively address an environmental issue and will be judged on its overall potential to advance the public interest in protecting the environment.

Factors in this assessment include: (1) the importance and relevance of the topic to current issues in environmental law and policy; (2) the clarity and soundness of the reasoning presented; and (3) the quality of the research and writing demonstrated by the publication.

Each student environmental writing committed to publication by the Iowa Law Review while the student is enrolled at the University of Iowa College of Law will be considered. A student work is committed to publication after it is selected for publication by the Iowa Law Review Editorial Board and a publication agreement is signed by the student author.
